Italian Meat Balls with Noodles

'This Italian-style dish, everyone enjoys -- especially when you use that good Hunt's Tomato Paste. Mamma Mia! It's the way to get the rich, tomato flavor in your Italian-style recipes -- just like home! I know your family will like it!'

2 eggs, well beaten
1 lb. ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablesp. minced parsley
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teasp. salt
3 tablesp. Wesson, pure vegetable oil
2 6-oz cans Hunt's Tomato paste*
3 cans hot water
1 teasp. dried sweet basil
1 teasp. salt; dash pepper
1/2 teasp. sugar
1 lb. noodles or 1/2 lb. spaghetti, cooked

Mix together first sic ingredients. With wet hands form into about 16 balls (mixture will be quite soft). Brown slowly in hot oil, shaking pan frequently to keep balls round. Blend Hunt's Tomato Paste with remaining ingredients. Pour over meat balls. Cover and simmer 1 hour. Serve over cooked noodles or spaghetti. Makes 4 servings.

* Hunt's Tomato Paste is pure tomato, concentrated on a thick paste. Use in any recipe for true tomato flavor, a spoonful to a can full, depending on the recipe. Generally, add it to the water or liquid, then to the other ingredients.

Lux Fabric Wash, 1927

Lux Fabric Wash ad, 1927, originally uploaded by Gatochy.

Scanned from Taschen's "All-American Ads of the 20s". Click image for 900 x 1199 size.

"The Chiffons & Printed Silks Paris is now wearing

Practical only if guarded from two enemies

The Longchamps track is brilliant now with smart women wearing the new creations of the Paris couturiers.

Everywhere are printed silks and chiffons, the newest versions of silk crêpe -- a bewildering variety of lovely fabrics in fascinating colors!

Such delicate fabrics, such exquisite colors are practical only if you guard them from two enemies. The first danger is rubbing with cake soap. Rubbing destroys the rich, soft sheen of silks and chiffons. The other menace is the destructive alkali contained in so many soaps -- regardless of whether they are flakes, chips or cakes. Alkali fades colors and weakens the sensitive silken fabrics -- may cut their life in half.

With Lux you avoid these destructive foes of silks and chiffons. trust your precious new dresses only to Lux -- anything else is a risk. The rich, bubbling Lux suds cleanse without harmful rubbing. The tissue-thin Lux diamonds contain no harmful alkali. Any fabric that is safe in water alone Lux leaves bright and unfaded, as beautiful as new. 20,000,000 women use Lux to keep their precious fine things ever lovely. Lever Bros. Co., Cambridge, Mass."

Will Grefé, Watkins Mulsified Coconut Oil, 1919

From Taschen's "All-American Ads 1900-1919". Click image for 1182 x 1779 size.

"Proper Shampooing is what makes beautiful hair. It brings out all the real life, natural wave and color, and makes it soft, fresh and luxuriant.

Your hair simply needs frequent and regular washing to keep it beautiful, but it cannot stand the harsh effects of ordinary soap. The free alkali, in ordinary soaps, soon dries the scalp, makes the hair brittle and ruins it. This is why discriminating women use

Watkins Mulsified Cocoanut Oil for Shampooing

This clear, pure and entirely greaseless product cannot possibly injure, and does not dry the scalp or make the hair brittle, no matter how often you use it.

Two or three teaspoonfuls will cleanse the hair and scalp thoroughly. Simply moisten the hair with water and rub it in. It makes an abundance of rich, creamy leather, which rinses out easily, removing every particle of dust, dirt, dandruff and excess oil. The hair dries quickly and evenly, and has the appearance of being much thicker and heavier than it is. It leaves the scalp soft and the hair fine and silky, bright, fresh-looking and fluffy, wavy and easy to do up. You can get Watkins Mulsified Cocoanut Oil at any drug store. A 4-ounce bottle should last for months.

Splendid for children."
